About Us
Long Home Products is a prominent leader in home improvement throughout the East Coast that has helped hundreds of thousands of families enjoy safer, more comfortable, and more beautiful homes. We were built on the idea that the right products, outstanding craftsmanship, and genuine respect for the customer would translate to success and lifetime satisfaction.
Long Home Products: A Family Business
Our story begins in 1945 when Henry “Tots” Long launched Long’s Fence Co. in a decommissioned bus at the corner of 18th St. NE and Rhode Island in Washington, D.C. — not far from the United States National Arboretum. It set in motion the events that would lead to decades of success.
Henry’s son, Robert, wrapped up a stint in the U.S. Merchant Marines in 1948. He returned to Washington, D.C. to join the family business he had supported with his service pay.
Robert, known to friends, family and colleagues as “Bob,” had ambitious plans for Long’s Fence Co. In 1961, he bought the family business from his father and transformed the small but successful venture into a thriving regional operation. The company grew to become a household name for fencing throughout the D.C. area.
Our company — whose name he shortened to Long Fence — began to flourish under its new owner. We became a national presence in both residential and commercial fencing. You can’t go too far in the D.C. Metro area without seeing Long Fence’s trademark quality fencing and that familiar blue and white fence sign.
1980’s-2018: Long Expands into the Home
John DePaola, married to Bob’s daughter Jill Long DePaola, joined Long Fence as the manager of the ornamental iron division in the mid-1980s. He moved into the installation department and was promoted to General Manager of automatic gate openers. In less than a decade, John was named Vice President of Business Development.
John knew the company had a strong foundation. With nearly 50 years of brand equity built as a fence company, he established a home products division and rolled out a new Long brand: Long Windows.
In 1994, the home products division was renamed Long Fence and Home and branched off into a separate company. After the launch of Long Windows, more Long brands were established: Long Roofing, Long Baths and Long Doors.
“Our goal is to make our customers happy,” John says. “Everyone works together to create a streamlined experience for the homeowners we serve: perfecting the in-home presentation, delivery, installation, and customer service processes. We are always striving to better ourselves and our company so that what can be a stressful project is easy and enjoyable for our customers.”
After experiencing substantial success in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia markets in 2018, we expanded into New England, taking our thriving venture into this new and exciting territory.
2019 On: The Long Home Products Story Continues
To accommodate our growing product line and accurately represent our offering of quality home products, Long Fence and Home began operating as Long Home Products. We continue to expand into new territories to serve more customers throughout the East Coast.
As a fourth-generation family business, Long Home Products now operates in 10 states: Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Florida, as well as Washington, D.C.
Many generations of the Long family are still involved in the day-to-day operation of the business. John remains our CEO, and Jill serves as Chief Brand Officer, ensuring that our mission and vision are accurately represented in the community and upheld for the satisfaction of all customers. Their children, John DePaola, Jr. and Katie DePaola Silverman, also play hands-on roles, with John Jr. as the Director of Marketing and Katie as our company’s spokesperson.
